2016 Grape Harvest

Harvest time is here again - this weekend!

Carl and I went for a walk last night and ended up in the vineyard to check on the grapes.  Wow!  The fruit looks great and brix (sugar) level was higher than expected. Not only were the grapes sweeter than anticipated, the flavor was fabulous. Even after the past few rainy days the grapes looked and tasted almost perfect which means it's time to harvest. We performed our random sampling and checking the numbers, which only confirmed our initial thought that this is the weekend that we need to harvest the Madeleine Sylvaner and the Siegerrebe.

After my immediate panic attack, I went into overdrive to plan and start cooking for the big day.  Not having my normal two week preparation time to cook and plan, I was able to put together my shopping list and have come up with what we call our traditional harvest fare with only slight variations to the menu.  If you have not been to one of our grape harvests in the past this is the year to volunteer.  As so many of you who have harvested know this is a fun event that makes what we do here on the farm possible and that many hands makes light work,

Here are the details:

  • Start time:  8:30am
  • Where:  Comfort Vineyard - parking on View Road just inside the winery entrance gate.
  • What to bring:  Garden clippers (with your name on them), gloves, and friends who also want to volunteer.
  • Attire:  Layers that you don't mind getting dirty or sticky with grape juice.

Hope to see you here Saturday morning (September 10th) to help bring in the 2016 grape harvest.  This will be a momentous event - the first harvest in the new winery.  Hope to see you here

Please RSVP to comfortsofwhidbey@gmail.comwith the subject "harvest" if you will be able to volunteer this weekend.
