About Us

Overlooking the Puget Sound, our family-run farm and winery on South Whidbey Island is a perfect place to stop and enjoy a taste of local wine. The first grape vines were planted on the estate in the late 1990s. Carl and Rita Comfort returned to the island and bought the 22-acre farm in 2006 and in 2010 converted an existing building into their winery and tasting room.

With close to 6000 plants in the four acre vineyard, a majority of the year is dedicated to hand pruning, hand tending, and nurturing the plants to ensure the best quality grapes possible. Each Fall the tradition continues of harvesting the grapes with the help of the community, family and friends. This process is truly a family and community effort.

Our vines include Siegerrebe, Madeleine Angevine, Madeleine Sylvaner and Pinot Noir. From our 2010 vintage we have produced two unique blends and two straight varietals. Comforts of Whidbey aims for the highest standard in both grape production and processing to create Artisan white wines made solely from grapes grown on our farm. To give back to our community we are now celebrating the release of our Samaritan Series wines with a 2010 Sangiovese and a 2010 Syrah.

Our picnic area provides a relaxing setting to have a glass of wine while enjoying the beauty and tranquility of Whidbey Island, with a view of the Cascade Mountains and the Puget Sound. Comforts of Whidbey is proud to provide a congenial atmosphere for families as well as the discerning oenophile. Mobility-impaired individuals will find our amenities easily accessible.

Our tasting room is open: 1:00-5:00 pm on Friday and 11am – 5 pm Saturday and Sunday also by appointment. If you want to experience wines grown and produced right here on Whidbey Island – Stop by. You’ll be glad you did!
